With the assistance of UACRR Ivan Franko Academic Drama Theatre of Kyiv got the license to stage the play "Glorious!" of a modern English playwright Peter Quilter.
Peter Quilter was born in Colchester, Essex County, England. He is an honours graduate of Leeds University. He began his writing career from his home in Greenwich, London where he lived for 14 years before emigrating to the Canary Islands.
Quilter’s plays have been translated into 27 languages and performed in the theatres of over 40 countries. He has been nominated twice for the Olivier Award (Best New Comedy and Best New Play) and his Broadway debut was nominated for 3 Tony Awards.
Besides the Agency got the license for Ivan Franko Academic Drama Theatre for another play – “Persona” written by Swedish author Ingmar Bergman.
Ingmar Bergman is a famous theatre and film director, scriptwriter, writer and one of the most significant creators of auteur cinema of the 20th century. Bergman himself considered “Persona” as one of his most important works. "At some time or other, I said that Persona saved my life —that is no exaggeration. If I had not found the strength to make that film, I would probably have been all washed up” says the director. Besides being a director of Persona he also performed as a scriptwriter – Ingmar Bergman wrote Persona during nine weeks while recovering from pneumonia.
“Persona” analyzes a collision of two completely different personalities: Elisabet and Alma. Elizabet a well-known stage actress who has suddenly ceased to speak in the middle of a play, does not speak for a long time now. At first the director doesn’t give us an opportunity to understand whether
The actress has really lost her voice or, maybe, in such a way she realizes her own protest. In order to get herself better she visits a psychiatrist at the hospital. There she meets Alma, the nurse. A woman enjoys the silent company of Elizabet – tells her about her life and her personal tragedies. By doing so Alma tries to arrange her thoughts. Later these two women share a journey to the seaside that will bond them as much as it’ll drive them apart.
