The Ministry of Economic Development has accredited the first two collective management organizations
The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine within the framework of the reform of the collective management system completed the first stage of accreditation of organizations in the field of expanded collective management for the effective collection and distribution of rewards in favor of artists.
Accreditation Committee of the collective management organization, which consists of international organizations representatives in the field of copyright and related rights, public associations representing owners and users, and officials of the MEDT, Ministry of Culture, National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting, according to the results of the open competition selected the first two organizations that will collect remuneration in the relevant areas of collective management.
Thus, the public union “Ukrainian League of Copyright and Related Rights” received the exclusive right to collect royalties for songs sounding in the hospitality industry – hotels, cafes, restaurants and other HoReCa establishments – Hotel, Restaurant, Cafe/Catering (“hotel-restaurant-cafe”).
Also, the public union “Ukrainian Music Alliance” was given the right to collect remuneration for audio recordings by broadcasters, service providers, online broadcasters and other public broadcasters.
Collected by these collective management organizations, funds will be further distributed among performers, producers of phonograms and videograms through transparent procedures.
Appropriate decisions of the Accreditation Committee are approved by the orders of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine. The MEDT continues to reboot the system of collection and distribution of royalties on the basis of international principles: transparency, accountability and effective management.
