Evgeniy Adamtsevich – people’s writer of folk music

Everything always has its author, whether he comes from the people with time having absorbed his name, or a famous artist, who is well-known, respected and loved. Among the infinite variety of works that are known to many people there are some, which because of their popularity, are mistakenly considered to be the heritage of folk art. At first glance, such a phenomenon does not have a negative connotation, but we have to always remember the real authors of these works. Evgeniy Adamtsevich is just such a person.

In 1969 in the hall of the Kiev Opera Theater named after Taras Shevchenko a melody penetrated the hearts of listeners and left no one indifferent. It was the famous "Zaporizhia’s march". But Evgeniy Adamtsevich played the melody not only on the pandura, but also touched the strings of hundreds of human souls. The People’s Artist of Ukraine Sergey Kozak described that concert as follows:

"Following the melody in an incredible train of hearts people got up from their seats. Storm of applause exploded, yet unheard under this dome. I find it hard to retell what happened after the first performance of "Zaporizhia’s march". I can only say that the Adamtsevich played it at the request of the public three times. The agreement not to perform more than two pieces was broken. And no kobza player blamed Adamtsevich, that he thrice repeated his show. It became clear: there was something extraordinary. Over the enchanted hall a wonderful unrepeatable moment erupted and died."

Now "Zaporizhia’s march" in musical adaptation and orchestration of Victor Gutsalo can be heard at almost all festive events. UACRR protects the rights of the authors of the immortal works keeping in touch with Victor Gutsalo and the heiress of Eugeniy Adamtsevich.
