Evening of children’s magicians

On February 27 under the auspices of Ukrainian Agency of Copyright and Related Rights a special event was held within the walls of the conference room of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine on the occasion of anniversaries of three brilliant Ukrainian writers. Creative association of playwrights from the Writers ‘Union, which is headed by a member of the Authors’ Council UAASP Vasyl Nevolov, celebrated the 100th anniversary of Vsevolod Danilevich, 95th anniversary of Yefim Chepovetsky and the 85th anniversary of Vsevolod Nestayko. The works by all of these storytellers and playwrights clearly are known and loved by every Ukrainian child. These authors gave Ukraine a lot of wise and beautiful, cunning and witty, life-affirming and gracious works for puppet theaters. Each of them put a piece of his soul in his work: being a writer is difficult, but writing for children requires an even greater amount of work. These writers not only painted childhood in bright colors, but also sowed the seed of goodness and sincerity among young readers.

The meeting was held with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, International Puppetry Association (UNIMA), Kyiv Municipal Academic Puppet Theatre and the Kyiv National University of Theatre, Film and Television. The host of the evening was Vasiliy Nevolov, a writer, playwright and professor. The event was attended by People’s Artist Sergey Efremov, Doctor of Philosophy Natalia Krivutsa, Professor Leonid Popov and writers: Vasily Dovzhik and Alexander Gordon. Moreover to honor the memory of storytellers different guests visited from various cities of Ukraine, among which many actors and journalists. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of People’s Artist of Ukraine, Professor Lyudmila Mickiewicz, which filled the hall with beautiful sounds of Beethoven’s "Moonlight Sonata". The culminating point was the passage from the play "The imperatives of Shevchenko and us" by G. Yablonska of Ukrainian heroic theater "Memory" with the title role played by a talented young actor Vyacheslav Yevtushenko.

Apart from the main objective of the meeting, a long-term cooperation plan between NSPU and UACRR was discussed. This event was equally important for strengthening creative contacts. The meeting proved to be an important milestone that reminded Ukraine of its three talented and wise sons. "Toreadors from Vasyukivka" by Nestayko, cute stories by Chepovetskiy and wonderful children’s plays by Danilevich – all these we will cherish in our memory as treasured jewels of Ukrainian literature.
